When to Book Your Wedding DJ for a 2027 Houston Wedding
Got engaged and picked a 2027 date? Congratulations. Once the venue is settled, the DJ is one of the first vendors worth locking in, because so much of your reception runs through the person holding the microphone. This guide covers when to start looking for a wedding DJ in Houston or Tomball, what to have ready before you reach out, and how booking works so you can reserve your date without stress.
We're OMG! Event Co., a DJ and photo booth company based in Tomball and serving Greater Houston. Here's the booking timeline we'd suggest to any couple planning a 2027 wedding.
Why the DJ belongs near the top of your list
Your DJ does a lot more than play music. At most receptions, the DJ is also the emcee: they introduce the wedding party, cue the first dance, call up the toasts, keep dinner on schedule and decide when to open the dance floor. A great DJ makes the night feel effortless. A rushed booking can leave you settling for whoever is left.
There's also a simple supply problem. A DJ can only be at one wedding at a time, and Saturdays in the most popular months get requested first. The earlier you reach out, the more choices you'll have, whether you're looking for a particular DJ, a combined DJ and photo booth package, or a specific style of entertainment.
Houston wedding season, briefly
Houston's weather shapes the wedding calendar. Spring and fall are popular because the temperatures are friendlier for outdoor ceremonies, photos and guests in formal wear. Summer weddings tend to move indoors, and winter weddings get a boost from the holidays, when out-of-town family is already traveling.
None of that means one season is better than another. It just means certain dates get requested more often, and those are the ones to plan for early:
- Saturdays in spring and fall. The most requested days on the calendar.
- Holiday weekends. Memorial Day, Labor Day and the weekends around Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.
- "Special" dates. Repeating or memorable numbers tend to draw extra interest.
If your date falls on a Friday or Sunday, or in a quieter month, you'll often have more flexibility. Either way, the right time to start is as soon as your venue and date are confirmed.
A suggested booking timeline for a 2027 wedding
Every wedding is different, but here's a practical order of operations.
| When | What to do | |---|---| | 12–18 months out | Confirm your venue and date. Start your DJ search and request quotes. | | 9–12 months out | Choose your DJ and reserve your date with a signed agreement. Add a photo booth if you want one. | | 6–9 months out | Have a planning call. Share your venue details and the moments you want covered. | | 3–6 months out | Build your must-play and do-not-play lists and pick songs for special moments. | | 1–2 months out | Finalize your reception timeline, name pronunciations and toast order. | | Final weeks | Confirm load-in times, the venue contact and any last changes. |
If your wedding is less than a year away, don't panic. Plenty of couples book later than this. Just reach out as soon as you can and keep your details handy so you can move quickly.
What to have ready before you request a quote
You'll get a faster, more accurate quote if you send the same brief to every DJ you contact:
- Your date and venue. The venue name and address, not just "Houston." Note whether the ceremony and reception are in the same place.
- Guest count. A rough number is fine. It affects the sound setup and the room layout.
- Hours of coverage. When guests arrive, when the reception starts and when the last song plays.
- The moments you want announced. Grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, toasts, cake cutting, bouquet toss and send-off.
- Extras you're considering. Lighting, fog, a photo booth, a video wall or a red carpet entrance.
- Your music style. A few artists or genres you love, and anything you definitely don't want.

How booking works with OMG!
We keep it simple:
- Send us your date and details. Use our quote form or call 281-612-7499.
- Have a quick call with our team. We'll talk through your venue, your timeline and the package that fits, and confirm your date on that call.
- Reserve your date. A signed agreement and a 25% retainer lock it in.
Until the agreement is signed and the retainer is in, a date isn't held for anyone, which is why it pays to start the conversation early.
The planning call is also a good time to ask anything you're unsure about: how the timeline flows, what the DJ needs from your venue, or how guest requests are handled. Our FAQs page answers the most common questions couples ask us before booking.
What wedding DJ packages cost with OMG!
Every OMG! DJ package includes up to 4 hours with a dedicated professional DJ who also emcees your reception, our pro sound system (2 high-end speakers, 2 subwoofers and 2 wireless microphones) and a planning call before your wedding.

- OMG! Lit, $1,000: Basic plus lights and fog, great for a first dance moment.
- OMG! Fire, $1,800: Lit plus the OMG! Photo Booth.
- OMG! VIP Experience, $4,250: Fire plus a jumbotron video wall and a red carpet with velvet ropes.
Only need a booth? Photo Booth Only is $600, with hours and inclusions confirmed in your quote. See our pricing page for details, our photo booth page for what the booth looks like, and our wedding DJ cost guide for how Houston DJ pricing compares in general.
Should you book the photo booth at the same time?
If you think you'll want one, yes. Booking your DJ and photo booth together means one team, one planning call and one timeline, so the booth opens and closes at the right moments and doesn't compete with the dance floor. It also saves you from coordinating two separate vendors in the venue's load-in window.
A booth is especially popular at weddings with a big mix of guests, because it gives people who don't dance something fun to do and gives everyone a photo to take home. Our photo booth rental cost guide covers what to compare if you're still deciding.
Mistakes to avoid when booking a wedding DJ
- Waiting for every other detail first. You don't need your menu or flowers settled to book a DJ. A date and venue are enough.
- Comparing quotes that cover different things. One quote might be for 3 hours and another for 5. Ask each DJ to quote the same scope.
- Skipping the emcee question. Ask who will actually be on the microphone and how they handle announcements.
- Assuming a date is held. Nothing is reserved until there's a signed agreement and retainer.
- Leaving the venue out of the conversation. Ask about power, setup space, load-in times and any sound limits early.
