How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost in Houston? (2026 Guide)

The short answer: Nationally, couples spent an average of $1,800 on a wedding DJ, according to The Knot Real Weddings Study (10,474 U.S. couples married in 2025). The middle of the market is wide: The Knot puts the lower quartile at $800, the median at $1,600 and the upper quartile at $2,700. The Knot doesn't publish a Houston-only number, but its two regions closest to us came in under the national average: $1,400 in the Southwest and $1,500 in the South/Southeast.

Here in the Houston area, OMG! Event Co.'s wedding DJ packages run from $800 (OMG! Basic) to $4,250 (OMG! VIP Experience), and our DJ + photo booth package is $1,800. See our full pricing →

Below we'll break down what actually moves a wedding DJ price up or down, what should be included, how many hours you need, and how to compare quotes so you're looking at real totals, not just starting prices.

Wedding DJ cost at a glance

These are third-party national benchmarks, not Houston quotes and not OMG! prices. They're useful for setting a budget, but every DJ's package is built differently.

| Benchmark (The Knot Real Weddings Study) | Average wedding DJ spend | |---|---| | National average | $1,800 | | Lower quartile | $800 | | Median | $1,600 | | Upper quartile | $2,700 | | Southwest region | $1,400 | | South/Southeast region | $1,500 | | 1–50 guests | $1,200 | | 51–100 guests | $1,600 | | 101+ guests | $1,900 |

For comparison, The Knot reports the average live wedding band at $4,500, and 71% of couples in that study hired a DJ, compared with 12% who hired a live band.

How much is a wedding DJ in Houston?

Houston is a big, spread-out wedding market, from downtown hotel ballrooms to barn venues out past Tomball, Cypress and The Woodlands. That's why you'll see such a wide spread of quotes. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Starting prices aren't totals. A low advertised rate may cover only a few hours of music, with emceeing, lighting or a microphone for toasts priced separately.
  • Packages differ more than prices. Two $1,500 quotes can include very different equipment, hours and services.
  • Location matters. Ask whether your venue's distance, load-in or setup window changes the price.

As one real local data point, here's what we charge at OMG! Event Co., based in Tomball:

| Package | Price | What's added | |---|---|---| | OMG! Basic | $800 | 4-hour DJ package | | OMG! Lit | $1,000 | + Lights & fog | | OMG! Fire | $1,800 | + OMG! Photo Booth | | OMG! VIP Experience | $4,250 | + Jumbotron video wall, red carpet & velvet ropes |

Every DJ package includes up to 4 hours with a dedicated professional DJ, our sound system (2 high-end speakers, 2 subwoofers and 2 wireless microphones) and a pre-event planning call. Just need the booth? Photo Booth Only is $600. Hours and inclusions are confirmed in your written quote. Compare our packages →

What drives the cost of a wedding DJ?

1. Hours of coverage. This is the biggest factor. Music for the reception only costs less than coverage that also includes cocktail hour, the ceremony or an after-party.

2. Emceeing. A wedding DJ isn't just playing songs. They announce your grand entrance, cue toasts, first dances, cake cutting and the send-off, and keep the timeline moving. A DJ who is also a confident emcee is worth more than a playlist.

3. Guest count and venue size. Bigger rooms and bigger crowds need more sound. The Knot's data shows average DJ spend rising with guest count, from $1,200 for weddings of 50 or fewer guests to $1,900 for 101+.

4. Lighting and effects. Dance floor lights, fog and other effects add atmosphere and usually add cost. At OMG!, lights and fog start with the OMG! Lit package ($1,000).

5. Extras like a photo booth or video wall. Many DJ companies offer add-ons. Bundling a photo booth with your DJ keeps both on one timeline with one point of contact. Our OMG! Fire package ($1,800) includes the DJ, lights and fog, and the OMG! Photo Booth.

6. Special skills and travel. The Knot notes that DJs with a specialty, such as bilingual emceeing, may charge more, and that out-of-area vendors often add travel fees.

What should a wedding DJ package include?

Before you compare prices, make sure you're comparing the same things. A solid wedding DJ quote should spell out:

  • The DJ and emcee who will actually be at your wedding
  • Hours of coverage, and which parts of the day they include
  • Sound equipment sized for your room, plus wireless microphones for toasts
  • Lighting, if any, and what kind
  • Planning: how you'll share must-play and do-not-play songs and your timeline
  • Setup and breakdown times that work with your venue
  • Payment schedule and total, in a written agreement

How many hours of DJ coverage do you need?

Most receptions fit in about four hours: guests arrive, dinner is served, the formalities happen (entrance, toasts, first dances, cake) and then the dance floor opens. That's why our DJ packages are built around up to 4 hours.

You may need more time if you want music for the ceremony and cocktail hour too, or if your reception runs late. Map out your timeline from first guest to last song, then ask each DJ to quote that exact window, including the price of any extra time, so you can compare apples to apples.

Popular wedding DJ add-ons

  • Dance floor lights and fog. Included from OMG! Lit up.
  • Photo booth. A gathering spot between dances and a take-home memory for guests. Included in OMG! Fire, or book Photo Booth Only for $600.
  • Jumbotron video wall and red carpet with velvet ropes. Big-entrance extras included in the OMG! VIP Experience.
  • Ceremony audio. If your ceremony is at the same venue, ask whether the DJ can cover it and how that affects the total.

How to compare wedding DJ quotes

  1. Get the total, not the starting price. Ask for every charge: hours, equipment, add-ons, travel, overtime and taxes.
  2. Match the hours. Make sure each quote covers the same timeline.
  3. Ask who your DJ is. Will you meet or talk with the person who'll be at your wedding?
  4. Ask how they emcee. Who handles announcements, and how do they coordinate with your venue, planner and photographer?
  5. Ask how planning works. How do you share song requests, do-not-plays and your timeline?
  6. Read reviews. Look for comments about the dance floor and how smoothly the night ran. Read our Google reviews →
  7. Get it in writing. Your agreement should list the services, hours, payment schedule and total.

Choose value, not just the lowest price

Your DJ sets the energy for the whole reception. The cheapest quote can cost you a dull dance floor or a missed toast, and the most expensive isn't automatically the best. Find the DJ whose package, personality and planning process fit your day, at a price that fits your budget.
